Dwight Boykins, Council
Member District D, City of Houston, is the speaker for the Men's Prayer
Breakfast at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church set for Saturday, April 15,
2017 at 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of the church at 204 Dooley
Street, Prairie View.
The
free breakfast is open to the men of the community, who are asked to reserve a

As an established
business and government leader, public safety, infrastructure, and job creation
are the cornerstones of his district policies.
As a member of
City Council, Dwight serves as Chair of the Ethics, Elections & Council
Governance Committee and is a member of the following committees: Budget and
Fiscal Affairs; BFA Subcommittee on Debt Financing and Pensions; Regulation and
Neighborhood Affairs; and Housing and Community Development.
Council Member
Boykins actively serves as an advocate for District D constituents and works to
address issues surrounding food deserts, blight, affordable housing, and
community development. One of his top priorities has been to make District D
one of the most economically driven districts in Houston, and with this goal in
mind, Council Member Boykins made history by pushing for the creation of Tax
Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) #26 for the Sunnyside community. He
collaborated directly with former Mayor Anise Parker and current Mayor
Sylvester Turner to identify the boundaries and recommend community and
business stakeholders to serve on the Board of Directors.
In his time on
council, Council Member Boykins has forged new partnerships with the Texas
Medical Center; University of Houston; Texas Southern University; Houston
Community College; and San Jacinto College.
Dwight is a native
resident of District D and attended local public schools. He received his BBA
in Marketing from the Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern
University.
Dwight has
previously served on the Oversight Committee of ReBuild Houston and remains a
huge advocate for the improvement of the city’s street infrastructure to
address drainage and flooding in District D and across the city. He is a Senior
Fellow American Leadership Forum (ALF) Class XXXV, and is currently a member of
the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo, a Life Member of the NAACP and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity
Inc.
Dwight is a man of faith and he and his wife of 27 years,
Genora Kendrick Boykins, are active members of Windsor Village United Methodist
Church.
