St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church held its Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 10, 2021 immediately following its celebration of the Eucharist on the First Sunday after the Epiphany. The virtual meeting was conducted fully on Zoom in accordance with guidelines established by the Episcopal Diocese of Texas during the COVID-19 times.
In addition to receiving the regular reports of the leadership, i.e. Rector, Senior and Junior Wardens, Treasure, Altar Guild, ECW and the Men's Groups, and committee reports, the members shared their comments in relations to the services. The 2021 Fiscal Budget was also approved for operation.
Dr. Glenn Berry and Ms. Sylvia Cedillo were elected to full terms of three years to the Vestry of the Church, to expire in January 2024. Reverend Rogers expressed thanks to the vestry members for their services and welcomed the reelection of the two members.
The delegates elected for the Episcopal Diocesan Council Meeting on February26 and 27 are: Mrs. Debra Berry, Frederick V. Roberts, Dr. Seab Smith and Dr. Carla Whittaker. The 2021 EDOT Council is completely virtual with live-streaming of the meeting and videos. All Episcopalians can participate in the events on social media with the hashtag #edotcouncil2021!
In other news, St. Francis of Assisi continues its services in hybrid form at 10:30 a.m. at the church on 204 Dooley Street and the YouTube Channel. All in-service attendees are required to wear masks and maintain the social distancing.
The Bible Study Group meets at 9:30 a.m. every Sunday Morning virtually on the Zoom Channel. The group's focus is on the book - Conversations with Scripture: The Gospel of Mark by Dr. Marcus Borg, Biblical Scholar who offers his own interpretation of the text, at times profound and always provocative. He invites readers to consider their own interpretations along the way. The public is invited to join by sending request to stfrancispv@sbcglobal.net.
Reverend Rogers closed the meeting by thanking all of the members for their continued support of the church and for staying the course during these COVID-19 moments.
