Dr. David Kirkpatrick is the Men's Prayer Breakfast Speaker on November 21, 2015

Dr. David A. Kirkpatrick, Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology in the Roy G. Perry College of Engineering at Prairie View A&M University is the speaker for the  Men’s Prayer Breakfast on November 21, 2015. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street.
 
Kirkpatrick is a native of Chicago and moved to Texas when he enrolled in Prairie View Agriculture and Mechanical College to pursue the Bachelor’s degree and play on the Football team. 

Dr. Kirkpatrick holds the Bachelors in Industrial Education and Technology from Prairie View A&M University, the Masters in Computer Engineering Technology from Kansas State College and the PH.D. Computer Engineering and Educational Technology from Purdue University.

His employment history include serving as and Electronics Subsystem Design Engineer for IBM, Microwave Engineer, Airborne Instrument Laboratory, Computer Analysis Engineer, HP (DEC), and Microcomputer Technical Division, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. 

He began his teaching career at Prairie View A&M University in 1968 in the College of Industrial Education and Technology as an instructor.  Dr. Kirkpatrick teaches courses in Direct Current Circuits, Basic Electronics, Computer Application to Electrical Problems, Robotics and Operational Amplifier Theory and Applications. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Kirkpatrick has conducted several research projects in Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology Curriculum Assessment, OASIS Signal Analysis Research and Automated Storage Handling and Retrieval System-Funded through ANRCP, to name a few.

Dr. Kirkpatrick holds or has held membership in several civic and social organizations to include the Prairie View Athletic Club and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  He also served on the Waller ISD Board of Trustees from 1996-2011 as the Secretary, Vice-President, and President of the Board. 

Among his many awards and honors are “Best Department Instructor” Prairie View A&M University College of Engineering Technology, Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award, Teaching Excellence Award, NISOD International Association, Distinguished Service to Higher Education Award at Prairie View A&M University and the Engineering Technology Teaching Faculty Award

Dr. Kirkpatrick and his wife, Loraine, are the parents of two sons and two daughters.

Clarence P. Landry, Jr.,

Mr. Clarence P. Landry, Jr., President of His Sanctuary Ministries USA International, Inc. and the Sanctuary Community Development Corporation in Houston is the speaker for the Men's Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street.   

Mr. Landry holds the Bachelors in Pastoral Ministries from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary/Levell College, the Masters of Arts in Education Social Ministries from the Interdenominational Theological Center/Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta and is a doctoral candidate for the Doctor of Ministry from Houston Graduate School of Theology and the Ph.D. in Public Policy & Administration Economic Development from Walden University in Minneapolis. 
 
He brings more than 20 years of academic and professional experiences in childhood education, technical and junior college administration recruitment and Not-for-profit and Faith-Based administration management systems, and community development. He has served as Executive Director/ Community Development Lending with the Jefferson Community Housing Development Foundation, Inc., Algiers Savings & Loan/Jefferson Insurance & Community Lending; Executive Director Community Development Officer for the American Education & Foundation, Inc., and Director of Community Development at the ACU of Texas Credit Union/Keystone Community Development Corp.

BISHOP DENA HARRISON TO CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI

The Rt. Reverend Dena Harrison, Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Texas will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with baptismal and confirmation services at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Prairie View on Sunday, October 4 at 3:00 p.m.  The candidates are for baptism Tyler Stafford and for confirmation Dr. Carla Whittaker. The candidates have attended training classes over the few months.  The public is invited to the service which will be followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.

Reverend Harrison was elected to Bishop Suffragan in June 2006 and was consecrated in October 2006. 

Born in Lufkin and reared in Orange, Bishop Harrison attended The University of Texas at Austin where she received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.  

After receiving her Master of Divinity degree from the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in 1987, Bishop Harrison served as assistant rector at All Saints’ Church, Austin, and as rector of St. James’ Church, La Grange, and St. James the Apostle Church, Conroe. From 2000-2003, she served as Canon to the Ordinary and served as Archdeacon and Canon for Ministry until her election as Bishop Suffragan in 2006. She manages the Austin Diocesan Center and serves the central region of the diocese.

Bishop Harrison has served the diocese as a deputy to General Convention and as a member of the Division of Christian Education, the Executive Board, the Standing Committee, and the Mission Funding Committee. In addition, she has served as a trustee of The Bishop Quinn Foundation and St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities and is currently serving as a trustee of St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital System and the Chair of the Board of Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest.  In August 2015, the Seminary named a new fellows program in honor of the Bishop Harrison that will support training of graduates of the Seminary's counseling program.

Bishop Harrison is married Larry Harrison, a CPA and they are the proud parents of a son and a daughter and they have four grandchildren. The Harrisons reside in Austin.

 


Additionally, the church will host a blessing of the animals on Saturday, October 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  The public is invited to bring their animals, including stuffed animals for the blessing.  Veterinarians will be on hand to provide shots at a minimal fee. Reverend Dwayne A. Thompson is Men's Prayer Breakfast Speaker

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." Psalms 133:1.

The Men of St. Francis of Assisi will host its Monthly Men's Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of the church, 204 Dooley Street.

The speaker for the breakfast is Reverend Dwayne A. Thompson, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church – Prairie View and the Executive Director, The Wesley Foundation at Prairie View A&M University. He formerly served the Texas Annual Conference (TAC), Southwest District as the Associate Pastor of the Covenant Glen UMC, in Missouri City, Texas and has held pastoral appointments for: Ebenezer UMC – Houston, Texas, Glen Brook UMC – Houston, Texas, and Wesley Tabernacle UMC – Galveston, Texas and St. Paul UMC - Huntsville Texas.

Reverend Thompson holds the Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from LeTourneau University and the Masters of Divinity degree from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.  He has actualized God’s vision for his life through full-time ministry on the heels of contributing his professional expertise for more than 30 years in the area of Public Transportation to the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Reverend Thompson’s areas of leadership include: church administration, program development, spiritual enrichment, counseling, discipleship, prayer, visitation and bereavement. He also served as speaker for Leadership, Spiritual Development, Church Visioning and/or special Commemorative Celebrations for various churches and organizations. 

Reverend Thompson is a devoted family man, the husband of Charla Parker-Thompson and a beautiful family of daughters.

Chef Derrick M. Rubin is the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Speaker at St. Francis of Assisi

Mr. Derrick M. Rubin is the speaker for the Men's Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street.
Rubin is the Executive Chef with Churrascos in Memorial City, a position he recently accepted in June 2015.  Rubin formerly served as the Executive Chef, Kitchen Manager & Cook at the Texas Mesquite Grill in Cypress. His other culinary experiences include stints as Executive Chef & Consultant with the Cellar Door Wine Bar & Bistro in Katy, Executive Chef at McDaniel Hill CafĂ© in Richmond, Internship & Line Cook with America’s Restaurant-River Oaks in Houston and Shipping and Receiving Manager with Richard’s Liquors and Fine Wines in Houston.

He holds the Associate Degree in Applied Science in Culinary Arts from the Art Institute of Houston and is Safe Serve Certified.  Rubin has been featured in several local magazines, newspapers, and TV broadcasts, including Up Close Magazine, Living Magazine, The Houston Chronicle and KPRC Channel 2-NBC Houston.

Rubin‘s commitment to excellence and his passion for the industry is evidenced through his designing and creation of the menus which attracted new patrons and showed improvement in the restaurant’s rating.   Today, we join Rubin in a special prayer for his nephew, six year old Van Johnson who is undergoing cancer treatment in Houston.

Reverend Lewter is the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Speaker at St. Francis of Assisi

Charles H. Lewter, IV is the speaker for the Men's Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street.

Lewter is a native of Manhattan, New York, and graduated from the North Babylon Senior High School.  He attended the American Baptist College in Nashville, Tennessee, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology.  Lewter also holds the Master of Divinity degree in Christian Education from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia and continued studies at Clark Atlanta University for the Doctor of Education with an emphasis in Educational Administration.  Reverend Lewter is studying at Truett Seminary at Baylor University in Waco, Texas where he is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree.

Reverend Lewter is the third dean of the Johnson-Phillip All Faiths Chapel at Prairie view A&M University in Prairie View, Texas.  During his tenure, Lewter has initiated many ministries that have enhanced and promoted spiritual growth among students, faculty and staff.   In May 2000, Revered Lewter received the Outstanding Service Award in the Division of Student Affairs, and more than three times he has received the Dean and Male Administrator of the Year awards.  While focusing on building an ecumenical and inclusive ministry, history was penned in Prairie View’s archives when the first female pastor was featured as the convocation preacher/speaker for the Annual Ministers’ Conference.  Because of his vision, the conference has now become a more inclusive vehicle for ministry among men and women.  

Lewter holds memberships in several professional, social and civic organizations and is the recipient of many awards and honors to include Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity; Alpha Iota Nu Fraternity; National Dean’s List; Outstanding Young Men of America, 1984 & 1986; Board of Directors for the Wesley Foundation; Member of the International Who’s Who of Professionals;  National Association of College and University Chaplains; and former Member of the Black/Jew Coalition of Atlanta, Georgia. He also has served as the National Pastoral Advisor of the National Baptist Student Union Retreat of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. 

Lewter’s motto for life is “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living shall not be in vain.”

Reverend Ben Tibbs is speaker for Men’s Prayer Breakfast at St. Francis of Assisi

Reverend Ben Tibbs, Councilman and Vice President of the Board for the Economic Development Corporation 4B for the City of Hempstead, and Chairman of the Waller County Democrats is the speaker for the Men's Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street.
Mr. Tibbs will speak on “Men of Character-Men of Velvet and Steel” using the scripture from Genesis 1:26-31.



Mr. Tibbs received his early education in Mineral Wells and is a graduate of Mineral Wells High School. He holds the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Sociology from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth and the Master of Divinity from Texas Christian University and is a licensed and ordained United Methodist Minister.  He has pastored Churches all across Central Texas and retired from full time preaching from First UMC in Hempstead.  Mr. Tibbs continues to preach and fill the pulpit for Pastors when they are absent for various reasons.  He moved to Hempstead in 1989 and owned and operated the Texas Burger through 1995 when he sold the business and took up employment with Valero Energy Corporation as area manager for eight stores.  


Mr. Tibbs was first elected to the Hempstead City Council in 2009 and is serving his third term.  His other civic engagements include Elected Chair for the Waller County Democrats, President of the Austin/Waller Camp of Gideons International, and three time President of Waller County Democratic Club.

Leroy Singleton is speaker for Men’s Prayer Breakfast at St. Francis of Assisi

Mr. Leroy Singleton, Sr., Professional Funeral Director and Owner of the Singleton and Sons Funeral Home in Hempstead is the speaker for the Men's Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 204 Dooley Street.

Singleton has varied experiences in public  and community services, having served as the first Black mayor and County Commissioner of Hempstead and Waller County Precinct 1, respectively.  He is a Navy Veteran and served his country honorably in the Viet Nam.  He holds the Bachelors degree in Industrial Education and the Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Prairie View A&M University, and the diploma in Mortuary Science from Commonwealth College of Funeral Services.

His professional experiences include insurance agent, business owner, high school and college instructor.  Singleton holds membership in several professional, social and civic organizations, to include the Texas and American Personnel Guidance Association, American School Counselor Association, Independent Funeral Services Association, Phi Delta Kappa International Education Fraterntiy, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Prairie View A&M National Alumni Association, Kiwanis International, the Lions Club and the National and World Conferences of Black Mayors.  He has also served on several state and local boards as appointed by Governors Mark White and Ann Richards.
